Role: Service Crew Member
Duration: November – December 2023 (School Holidays)
Location: 900 South Woodlands Drive Woodlands Civic Centre
During the 2023 year-end school holidays, I worked as a Service Crew Member at McDonald’s, one of the busiest and most structured fast-food environments in Singapore. This role gave me my first formal work experience outside of the family business and taught me how to operate within a large company setting with high expectations.
My main responsibilities included:
Taking customer orders at the front counter and drive-thru, ensuring accuracy and speed during peak meal hours.
Preparing food and beverages according to strict hygiene and presentation standards.
Cleaning and maintaining the dining area and kitchen stations, including regular sanitisation procedures.
Working as part of a team to manage shift duties and support each other during rush hours.
This experience challenged me to work under pressure, especially during lunch and dinner crowds, while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude towards both customers and colleagues. I had to adapt quickly to the fast-paced environment, respond to customer needs, and follow standard operating procedures with discipline.
Working at McDonald’s taught me key values such as:
Punctuality and discipline — being on time and following shift schedules strictly
Customer service — handling different types of customers with patience and professionalism
Teamwork — relying on and supporting colleagues in high-pressure situations
Time management — balancing tasks during short break times and busy periods
Although I was there for only a short time during my school break, the lessons I took from McDonald’s were long-lasting. It gave me confidence, real-world experience, and a deeper respect for people in the service line. It also helped prepare me for future job roles by giving me a solid foundation in workplace responsibility and communication.
